7787 Accuracy/reliability after 1 month
Dec 24, 2013,02:07 AM
Quick update and discussion on accuracy/reliability of this watch. Please feel free to share your own experiences of Breguet accuracy/reliability.
After testing it for 1 month since purchasing it, the 7787 watch is almost exactly 50 seconds off (slow). This means the accuracy is around -1.5 seconds per day. Since it is a new watch, which I ordered from Breguet, then I noticed an initial period when the watch was doing around -1 second per day for the first few days. Since then, I record the watch is doing quite consistently -2 seconds per day. I have been wearing the watch all weekdays (from morning to say early evening), with some rest off-wrist on weekends (during which I would simply manually wind it in the morning). Stored usually dial down - but I experimented on the last few days with dial up (not fully clear whether this helped, but perhaps a tiny little faster than dial down - difficult to tell at this point).
In terms of reliability, I have taken a whole bunch of measurements (ca. 100 or so) during the month, and the watch was very consistent - vast majority interval lags were around -1.5 to 2 seconds, with occasionally (few times) a 0 or -4 seconds per day equivalent. In other words, the range was from 0 to -4 seconds per day, with vast majority around -2 seconds per day. Therefore very reliable by my experience.
Finally, I found it interesting that the watch appeared equally reliable whether full-wound, or three-quarter down the power reserve - contrarily to my other watches. For example, my JLC Master control (which I consider a reference of accuracy, and reliability as long as it is fully wound - at around 1 second fast per day) rapidly deviates in terms of accuracy once its power reserve decreases (gaining many more seconds per day say half way through its 42 hours). With the Breguet 7787, the accuracy/reliability remains consistent very far down the power reserve, something I attribute to the movement which has two barrels focused on keeping the watch isochronic during the 38 hours PR. Quite noticeably successfully based on my own measurements.
This is the first time I experience with partly silicon movement, and I must say I'm pretty pleased with it so far.
I already compared above with my JLC. When I compare the 7787 with my 5827 Marine chronograph's widely run and tested Lemania movement (lots of articles by others on this movement), the reliability is almost as good. My 5827 has an incredibly reliable timekeeping - however, the watch has been doing +7 seconds per day consistently for the last few years since a few days after purchase/ordering until today (almost 5 years down the road). Very limited deviations from this. This makes me wish that someone would have fixed it early so as to keep it closer to zero - perhaps something I can ask for at the servicing stage (which will come soon), what do you guys think?
A second problem which I had encountered with 2-3 other people I know who have a Marine range watch is the rotor (incl. someone on this site, if I recall well a few years back), which I found does not turn as easily with the Marine as with the other watches I have (possibly because of its beautiful wavy shape, or size - not sure), making it stop for less active people. In contrast, the 7787 rotor is a wonder and beauty - very limited office movement is required to keep it fully wound, very much like my JLC Master or rolex automatic watches.
In conclusion, I'm pretty impressed with the 7787 timekeeping and movement - something I think the double barrels and silicon parts help.
I would be very happy to hear from you guys on your experience with Breguet timekeeping, accuracy, reliability!
Regards, Jon.
