BREGUET RÊVE DE PLUME HAUTE JOAILLERIE

The Plumes collection draws its inspiration from the story of Queen Marie-Antoinette of France, wife of Louis XVI and the Breguet company’s effective ambassador for ladies’ jewellery watches. This guardian of time never stopped writing to her husband the king as well as to her family in Austria. Marie-Antoinette used her pen to express the desire for freedom that pervades her correspondence. This universe led to the creation of very poetic timepieces developed on such ancient decorative methods as engraving or uncommon gemsetting techniques that recall the featherweight delicacy of a quill pen.

This year, the Plumes collection is enriched by a new watch called Rêve de Plume. This timepiece in rose or white gold features the sculpture of a feather that starts at the spherical gem-set attachment at 6 o'clock and goes on to follow the left side of the bezel. Breguet’s craftsmen and women resorted to diamonds of different sizes to represent every part of the feather. Thus the central ‘shaft’ part of the feather is set with baguette diamonds that taper as they approach the end. Similarly, the elements evoking the ‘weblike’ part of the feather are set with brilliant-cut diamonds of varying sizes, like drops of water sliding along a plumage. Despite the complex setting of diamonds, the piece as a whole gives an impression of lightness and effortlessness. The dial in white mother-of-pearl features a new engine-turned pattern, which again conjures up the delicate vanes of the feather, spreading out from 6 o'clock on the dial. Using engine-turning techniques to add another dimension is a delicate operation because mother-of-pearl is extremely brittle. Indicating the hours and minutes with open-tipped hands in blued steel, this watch is also set with diamonds on the bezel and the flange while the crown is surmounted by a briolette-cut diamond. This outstanding piece once again demonstrates the attention to detail that characterises all of Breguet’s creations. The sides of this jewellery watch are finely engraved with feathers, rather like the delicately fluted casebands that are one of the identifying features of a Breguet watch.

Diamonds weighing more than 4 cts adorn this watch fitted with the self-winding calibre 586, a movement with a silicon balance-spring.

BREGUET RÊVE DE PLUME, JEWELLERY SET

To accompany the Rêve de Plume watch, Breguet has produced a set of jewellery in white or rose gold, which is also inspired by the quill motif. The earrings, the ring and the necklace that make up the set take up the ball attachment of the watch and other Reine de Naples models in the guise of a pearl. Each item of jewellery features a magnificent entirely diamond-set feather emerging from the pearl. Diamonds of different calibres were once again used to represent its various parts. Breguet has also taken advantage of the excellence of its artists in gem-setting techniques to confer grace and lightness to this exquisite jewellery set.

For the insane size of the case (44mm! A breguet with the dimensions of a Panerai? C'mon...) it could have been really interesting. Regards

At SIHH, much of the Harmony collection was the standout. At Basel (from all I have seen thus far), this Breguet 7077 is the winner! So many cool concepts built into a gorgeous timepiece. 44mm is too big for many, but I could definitely enjoy the generous...
